@Fersomling They were in trouble because they were independents, not because of anything that actually happened in the campaign. In this country you have to be running as a Republican or Democrat to win on the national level. Out of thousands, perhaps milions of national elections in the US over the years, there can’t be even 1% that have been won by independents. Our majority voting system doesn’t allow it.

That’s funny. I remember watching this as it happened and the inevitable fallout on the news in the following week. It was his personal hearing aid, he admitted as much.
